Many parents and community members gave an hour of their morning to listen to the administration talk about vision and assessment.

Dr. Gene Freeman, Superintendent, presented his vision for the school district and how the District is using benchmarking and assessments to evaluate how each student is progressing. Freeman presented data showing gains in student achievement, even when one looks beyond FCASD’s overall high scores to ensure that we are growing each student every year.

By focusing on "value add", the administration looks beyond Fox Chapel's generally high overall scores to ensure that students are experiencing a year of growth each academic year.

He discussed strategies using newly implemented benchmarking tools, such as STAR 360, that have contributed to these gains while reducing the amount of classroom time spent on the benchmarking. Assistant Superintendent Dave McCommons provided a handout with detailed information on the different assessment that students are exposed to and their purpose, applicable grades, and dates.
